Upper Ferguson catchment

The Upper Ferguson River catchment starts on the Darling Plateau and runs to the lower reaches of the Swan Coastal Plain.

Around half of the catchment area consists of uncleared native vegetation, with the remaining area used for beef grazing and dairy. Both of these industries contribute to increased nutrient loading in the river, in combination with rural septic tanks and horse keeping properties. Despite this catchment being situated some distance from the coast, nutrient and sediment delivered to the Ferguson River will flow to the Preston River, and eventually discharge to the Leschenault Estuary.
